Dr. Richard Robinson B.Sc., M.D., F.R.C.S.C., graduated from the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Medicine in 1985. He then attended McGill University in Montreal for a one year Rotating Internship, after which he worked as a family doctor in various communities around B.C. Beginning in 1987, he completed a five-year, Plastic Surgery Residency Programme at the University of British Columbia. This extensive training involved all aspects of plastic surgery; burns, hand surgery, reconstructive surgery, paediatric surgery, microsurgery and cosmetic surgery. Prior to beginning practise in 1993, he visited a variety of clinics in the United States for further exposure to breast reconstruction and cosmetic surgery techniques.
Dr. Robinson successfully completed his specialty exams with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Plastic Surgery Examination in Canada in 1993 and the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1997.
Dr. Robinson has been a member of the active staff at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on Vancouver Island since 1993. He is involved in the teaching of medical students and family practice residents and is a clinical instructor for the University of British Columbia. Dr. Robinson understands the need to stay current on the ever-changing techniques and approaches in plastic surgery and therefore attends conferences on a regular basis. He is a member in the following professional societies:
